XIII — Relativity, Polarity, Rhythm, and Gender
The Law of Relativity
This law is often an uncomfortable law and compels each subject of the Universe to a right of initiation and of test. This is done so that the light emanating deep within all of us is fortified and gains sufficient strength to withstand and endure any mishap or even catastrophe which fortune or fate casts in our true and noble path to an enlightened state of being and bliss. With each pressing test, we must remain faithful, steadfast to the immutable laws of the Universe and our place within it if we are to conquer ourselves and the false ego within us. We must believe in the Spirit within us, and let the Spirit guide our way through each of the pitfalls and disasters we have to face.
The law also states that we must see present states of misfortune in their proper and universal context and that whatever we deem to be bad, there is always worse happening in another field and arena of life. All misfortune is relative, and none of us possesses the ownership of true misfortune. Misfortune is relative to us all. It is how we deal with the misfortune: that is the key to success and enlightenment.
The Law of Polarity
Everything resting in the heavens and the Universe has its opposite. Where there is negative, there is also positive. Life is in a perpetual state of a continuum, and with effort and a steadfast belief in the laws of the Universe, we all have the ability and possess the power to change the fortunes of our lives. We need only to recognise our present state of mind and the circumstances which have brought about our present condition to be able to see the opposite and the road and journey to a new condition in the opposite plane of life.
This is achieved by concentrating one's thoughts and efforts on the opposite pole of life. Being able to let go of the negative state of belief and press forward the energy within us to a positive pole of desire will not only banish thoughts and energies of the past, but it will renew within you, reinvigorate your sense of self-worth, and it will drive you to a new beginning with the past banished behind you.
The Law of Rhythm
There is a frequency, a rhythmic vibration in life and in the Universe, which we must endeavour to connect into if we wish to change the present frequency and unwanted rhythm beating in our lives.
The rhythms control the cycle of vibration within our lives, and, at different times, in our existence, the rhythms change and we must be able to recognise this shift in vibration if we are to take control of it. The Universe will rhythmically send out these vibrations, and we must learn to accept them in the golden mean, or the middle way. We must resist the temptation to become overwhelmed with good fortune, and be strong against the doom of disaster, and we must treat each of these imposters the same as the saying goes.
When we become harmonised with both our inner energy and rhythm and with the Universe, we can enter a higher plane of understanding and of compassion. We can feel instinctively more, see more, hear more, and respond more to the ever-changing fortunes of our time.
The Law of Gender
The final universal law states that everything in life has both the masculine and the feminine: the Ying and the Yang of life. We all possess the masculine and feminine side to our life, and we must determine to balance the two parts to create a whole harmony both with ourselves and with the world around us.

About Karl Swainston
Karl Swainston is a writer and storyteller whose work is forged from a life lived across the North of England and far beyond. Growing up on a Leeds council estate in the 1960s, Karl's journey was anything but linear. By the age of thirty, he had already lived a dozen lives: from the rigors of grammar school to a degree in Latin, a stint as a fishmonger, a period of discovery living in Marseille, and a return to the hustle of London. Whether working as a postman, a builder, or competing as a county-level chess player, he was, above all, an avid reader—constantly documenting the world around him. This restless spirit continued into his professional life. Karl later taught in Bradford, where he ran a specialist unit for 244 of the most excluded students from across the region—young people whom even the local Pupil Referral Units could not accommodate. Working alongside his old friend Malcolm, Karl spent his days navigating the volatility of Bradford's most aggressive and dysfunctional teenagers. Throughout his life, Karl has been an avid runner and has always shared his home with a rotating cast of beloved dogs and cats—companions who have been constant witnesses to his work. As a writer, Karl's range is as expansive as his history. He works across a wide breadth of genres, including fiction and short stories, autobiography and memoir, biography, non-fiction, and metaphysical writing, as well as providing sharp commentary, opinion, analysis, and essays. Whether writing about his years managing the Harrogate Arms or offering insights from his current adopted home in South East India, where he lives in a simple village with his dog, Bambi, Karl's voice reflects the full, untidy, and deeply human breadth of life. He continues to draw on the rich, decades-long tapestry of his experiences to tell stories that matter, proving that no matter where you live, the human story remains the same.
