XI — The Law of Correspondence and Cause and Effect

← Karl Swainston / Resonance

By acting, we are declaring that we are willing to make real our thoughts and deepest desires. Even if our actions have but the smallest sway upon what we want, it doesn't matter, as the journey to the true desire has begun. From that first beginning will come another beginning, and a whole new world will begin to open up for the advocate of belief in the universal laws. From sitting in the arid desert to standing, you will begin to see more opportunities; the surrounding panorama will become clearer; attention can now become focused upon features hitherto unseen when you were sat on the sand of that desert. And when you begin to walk, other avenues will present themselves, as you journey further and further afield from your thoughts and move with ever more determined steps of action. Through this action, you will begin to liberate your soul's desire. You must be careful and observant that through your actions, you avail yourself of every opportunity to seize anything that will be of benefit to help you achieve your desire. But this does not mean doing wrong, which must always be avoided. All the energies of our waking, sleeping, distant selves must be engaged in action if we wish to listen to the sound of our calling. The Universe will not advertise the rewards of your actions. It is your task to recognise the roads the Universe presents you with to reach your goals and dream's desire. Action is everything. It is the oneness of you and the Universe around you, and through the very deed of action, there is a constant and unswerving vibration that will attract similar vibrations of frequency already out there in the abundant heavens of life.

The Law of Correspondence

As hitherto mentioned, with the first law of Oneness, the law of correspondence states that in this great sphere of life, correspondence between the resonant matter of the physical world and the ethereal, spiritual, and metaphysical world is all in harmony. The key communication of that harmony is correspondence. There are no barriers to corresponding in the infinite Universe: every point and manner of correspondence is possible. Energy, vibration, light, motion, every living thing – and remember all matter and non-matter in the Universe is living and is alive from the great time of its creation many billions of years ago – can communicate through correspondence, and it doesn't matter how disparate these fields of energy are. The Universe is vast, but each tiny vibration is felt across its over-arching membrane of life. Therefore, you must begin to learn to communicate and open up channels of correspondence with hitherto alien concepts and ideas. You must begin to open up the channels of insight and consciousness within you. Only then will you begin to establish correspondence with everything that is in the Universe and even with the Universe itself.

The Law of Cause and Effect

Within this great fold of the Universe, there is nothing of chance; everything and every action have cause. All our thoughts and all our actions have their creator, and we must begin to recognise this, accept this, and only by so doing this, can we begin to become an ever greater and more determined and focused force for the journey of our destiny.

Every action and every thought which is acted out or created in our minds, and lives, has energy, and this energy carries our thoughts and actions out in circular patterns throughout the whole expanse of endless time and space. What we do is passed along this energy wave, and in return, we too will receive back that which we have given. This karmic return is completely natural since the vibration of its creation, the cause if you like, and its returning effect will be both the same. Should we want peace, perpetual happiness, bliss, and wholesome loving of life, and we give out to the Universe in actions these desires of ours, so shall we receive them. But if we send out selfish and self-centred thoughts and accompany these with actions, which is even worse, then they will be just as nasty.

You may believe no one chooses the latter willingly, but you'd be surprised how many despots and dictators around the world have met their doom because of this very act, and it is not only national despots who choose this journey of mirrored destruction, but in the simple fold of life, work, play, and marriage, there are many choices made, which are no different from the selfish acts of the despot. And these acts, these deeds, will have the same cycle of cause and effect, and what ill was set out to play by its creator will once again return in the greatest cycle of them all: the Universe and its immutable laws.

About Karl Swainston

Karl Swainston is a writer and storyteller whose work is forged from a life lived across the North of England and far beyond. Growing up on a Leeds council estate in the 1960s, Karl's journey was anything but linear. By the age of thirty, he had already lived a dozen lives: from the rigors of grammar school to a degree in Latin, a stint as a fishmonger, a period of discovery living in Marseille, and a return to the hustle of London. Whether working as a postman, a builder, or competing as a county-level chess player, he was, above all, an avid reader—constantly documenting the world around him. This restless spirit continued into his professional life. Karl later taught in Bradford, where he ran a specialist unit for 244 of the most excluded students from across the region—young people whom even the local Pupil Referral Units could not accommodate. Working alongside his old friend Malcolm, Karl spent his days navigating the volatility of Bradford's most aggressive and dysfunctional teenagers. Throughout his life, Karl has been an avid runner and has always shared his home with a rotating cast of beloved dogs and cats—companions who have been constant witnesses to his work. As a writer, Karl's range is as expansive as his history. He works across a wide breadth of genres, including fiction and short stories, autobiography and memoir, biography, non-fiction, and metaphysical writing, as well as providing sharp commentary, opinion, analysis, and essays. Whether writing about his years managing the Harrogate Arms or offering insights from his current adopted home in South East India, where he lives in a simple village with his dog, Bambi, Karl's voice reflects the full, untidy, and deeply human breadth of life. He continues to draw on the rich, decades-long tapestry of his experiences to tell stories that matter, proving that no matter where you live, the human story remains the same.
