Chapter Five — The Wedding

← Diana Randel-Claire-Blake / The Lake That Loved Us

Years later, they married beside Lake Windermere on a warm summer afternoon. The trees moved gently in the breeze, the water sparkled in the distance and the people they loved most gathered around them.

James cried before Molly had even reached him.

"You said you wouldn't cry," Molly whispered when she finally stood beside him.

"I lied."

She laughed through her own tears.

"You look beautiful."

"So do you."

"No."

She frowned.

"What do you mean, no?"

"You look more beautiful than beautiful."

Molly shook her head.

"That's not even a proper sentence."

"I don't care."

He took both her hands in his.

"I've spent my whole life looking for words that could explain how I feel about you, and none of them are big enough."

Molly's eyes filled with tears again.

"You're going to make me cry."

"Good."

"Why?"

"Because then we'll both be crying."

She laughed, and everyone around them laughed too. Then James became serious again and looked directly into her eyes.

"I promise that wherever life takes us, I'll always find my way back to you."

Molly squeezed his hands.

"And I promise that wherever you are, that is where I will want to be."

When they kissed, the people watching them applauded, and Molly felt as though the entire world had suddenly become unbearably beautiful.

About Diana Randel-Claire-Blake

Diana Randel-Claire-Blake is a lifelong believer in love, laughter, flowers, and the little miracles that make every day worth getting out of bed for. At 75, Diana still believes that it is never too late to find happiness, wear far too much purple, drink tea from an excessively sentimental mug, and fall hopelessly in love with life all over again. Inspired by the beauty of ordinary moments, she writes stories about second chances, everlasting love, lakeside walks, cups of coffee, and the mysterious magic that happens when two hearts simply refuse to give up on each other.
